Rhythmic refinement, a creative vein and an original sound make Mark Guiliana one of the world's leading drummers. Appreciated in a spectrum ranging from jazz to rock to electronic music, Guiliana is helping create a new drumming language, harnessing languages and electro-acoustic sounds. His Beat Music project is in keeping with this mixing of styles, with one of the most popular formations being with him as band leader. Mark is also a respected session musician, who has worked with legendary musicians such as John Medeski, John Scofield, Dave Douglas, Brad Mehldau (with whom he formed the duo Mehliana) and musicians from outside the jazz world such as Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam), Meshell Ndegeocello, reggae/hip-hop artist Matisyahu, singer and oudist Dhafer Youssef and the late David Bowie, with Guiliana played the drums on his final masterpiece Black Star. Jazz Times has called him "a master of technique with rare musicality, one of the most influential drummers of his generation".
In association with Bologna Jazz Festival
The show is part of Bologna Estate 2024, a programme of activities promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Bologna and the Metropolitan City of Bologna - Bologna-Modena Tourist Area.
