"In the beginning was the word… closely followed by a drum and some early version of a guitar". This is how the world began according to one of the greatest rock musicians, Lou Reed: words and the first sounds, language and music, inextricably linked. It is well known that poetry was first created to be sung and there are ballads and songs in literature; indeed, many of the greatest works in the history of literature feature musicians as protagonists or have a structure that follows that of certain musical works.
During the six sessions of our journey, we will explore the many ways in which music and literature have crossed paths and nourished each other, and will analyse and try to derive stories from the musical pieces that the participants consider most significant.
